The comedy “Strangers with Candy,” written by and starring Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert, follows a middle aged Jerri Blank (played by Sedaris) as she is released from prison after 32 years to find her mother dead and her father in a coma, having remarried a cold and adulterous woman who is unwelcoming at best of Jerri’s return.
Determined to wake her father, whom she affectionately and childishly calls “Daddy” throughout the entire film, Jerri vows to get her life back on track by returning to high school and winning the state science fair with the help of her new found brainy friends and the school’s science teacher (played by Colbert).
